Favorite Karina dress: The Megan
What are your every day, must-reads, online or off?
I still roll old school, so I start with the LA Times. I like to say it’s good for monologue jokes and sketch ideas but I start with the comics. Grew up on Garfield, still wondering what’s up with Dagwood’s hair. I finish up with everything I’ve dumped into my Google Reader then on to Positively Positive.
In your opinion, what are the qualities that make for a good comedian?
What I admire most in a good comedian whether it be stand up, improv, sketch, TV or film is the ability to take chances. Do you think Melissa McCarthy was concerned about what people thought of her when she fondled balloons and got crazy with ranch salad dressing on her SNL stint? No. She went for it and it was freaking funny. We have to push the envelope in order for comedy to evolve. Otherwise we’d still think the Beav was ha-larious.
If you need a good laugh, what do you read/watch/listen to?
For a really good laugh I usually take in a live comedy show. I’m a sucker for Opening Night: The Musical and King Ten down at iO West in Hollywood. Lately, Robot Chicken and Archer are tickling my funny bone.
If you could give your 16 year old self advice, what would you say?
Hey, you know that blond bimbo who put you down for always being happy, wearing what you wanted and embracing people from all walks of life? She gonna be a crackhead and you gonna be on TV. PS Put down the Snickers bar.
