Favorite Karina dress: Megan for sure!
How you know Karina?
I met Karina though friends and came to love her and her gorgeous dresses at her at two of my favorite shops here in the Hudson Valley, DIG and Woodstock Design, whenever they do a trunk so. And I’ve been so flattered and delighted to model for her a few times.
What are your every day, must-reads, online or off?
HuffPo, NYTimes, Pinterest, endless food and home design blogs, DListed (because he’s sooo naughty!), a rotation of the newest cookbooks and fiction, those maddeningly addictive FB and Twitter feeds, fashion pubs to see what crazy stuff they are throwing out there (but really, at the end of the day, I’m either wearing my Karinas or jeans and black tank, so it’s more to look, not to lust after…)
You own a marketing and pr agency and are an expert at ‘artful schmoozing.’ How does one schmooze artfully?
It’s so important to be genuine, especially in marketing and PR when the tendency is to “press palm.” I always strive to remember everyone’s name, to smile and ask meaningful questions and to listen as much as I talk, to keep my word and never promise too much. AND I deliver. Tell me your wildest biz wishes and I’ll help you make ’em come true!
You’re also a single mom. How do you juggle family and owning your own business?
I don’t sleep! Ha! And that’s why Karina Dresses are so killer diller! They are not only gorgeous fashion items, they are literally part of my vital biz “tools.” No matter how many events, parties, clients or assignments I am juggling, when I’m wearing Karina, I know I look my best, and I feel completely relaxed and confident, ready to take on the world!
If you could give your 16 year old self advice, what would you say?
Appreciate your gorgeous youthful skin and your ability to sleep till 1 in the afternoon! Ask out the boys more often (or the girls!) Make friends with as many different kinds of people as possible. And if anyone asks you to travel, say “YES!” and ask questions later. Know you are smart and gorgeous and only at the very beginning of your many many powers!
Your perfect day. What would it look like?
Oh wow…..no ringing phones, buzzing texts or jangling email alerts. Lots of lazing around with the newspaper and coffee in something cozy comfy on a lounge chair for most of the morning. Maybe a walk or a bike ride. Definitely a ride down a country road in a convertible with the top down and the music LOUD.
A mani/pedi and a massage, followed by slipping into a new Megan in a fabulous pattern, a fave pair of high heels, a dash of my signature red lipstick, and a night out with my sweetie. I am a real girly-girl at heart, so something romantic would definitely be on the menu (another Karina bonus: wear your dress, have your cake and eat it too! I LOVE a dress that feels as good on you at the end of the meal as it feels at the beginning of the night.)
Thanks for sharing, Abbe!
