What are your every day, must-reads, online or off?
I subscribe to several magazines but the one I read most often is Allure. I read TONS of blogs on a range of topics from fashion, to beauty, to food and lifestyle. I am also an avid book reader. Fiction, biographies, true crime, chick lit all make for great reads. I’m currently reading “The Brightest Star in the Sky” by Marian Keyes one of my favorite authors.
You write about beauty and fashion for the 40+ crowd. How is your audience different than other blog audiences?
My readers aren’t concerned about acne and pimples, they are concerned about fine lines and wrinkles! Beauty products and applications have changed drastically from when we more ahem, “mature women” may have learned how to apply makeup. For instance, no one used makeup brushes on a daily basis back in the 60’s, 70’s or even 80’s. Now they are essential in every woman’s makeup bag! My readers aren’t interested in glittery, trendy makeup shades–they want to know how to update their look to best flatter their features. As far as skincare, navigating the waters of anti-aging products and ingredients can be very confusing. At Prime Beauty I cut through the hype, explain the buzz words, talk about which ingredients are effective, review different skincare brands and let you know when to spend your hard earned cash and when to put a lock on your wallet.
What are your three go-to style tricks?
#1. Accessorize! You’d be amazed at what a colorful scarf, some jewelry or a great bag can do for a pair of black pants and a white buttoned down blouse!
#2. Learn your body type. Whether you have an apple, pear, curvy or athletic body type there are clothes are cut to flatter your body type.
#3. Tightlining–it’s an easy eyeliner technique that makes your lashes look thicker and fuller!
If you could give your 16 year old self advice, what would you say?
Relax, it will get better. Never change yourself for anyone. Your dreams really can come true with hard work and determination!
Your perfect day. What would it look like?
Any day on the water (I live by a lake) is a great day for me. I would make a picnic lunch, put on my swimsuit, grab some towels and spend a day with friends on the boat. After some sun bathing (with an umbrella of course) and putt-putting around in the boat, we would stop for a cocktail on the deck of one of the beautiful restaurants on the lake. The day would wrap up with a nice BBQ at home and a glass of wine.
