What’s your favorite, go-to recipe this summer?
In the summer, I very much eat whatever looks good at the market – fresh fruits, veggies, all of it, generally just prepped/cut up and tossed together with a light dressing or no dressing at all, depending on the fruit.
What ingredients do you think are under-appreciated?
Potatoes. They don’t get the star status they deserve – people often think of them as a side dish, or only sing their praises when fried, but honestly, the potato is nearly a complete food on its own – extremely nutritious and delicious, and can be prepped an almost infinite number of ways. I should write a potato cookbook. Potatoes are amazing.
If you could give your 16 year old self advice, what would you say?
Hey, listen, it’s not that serious, life – in the end, everyone dies. But you should probably go to class a little bit more. Or have more fun – I mean, really, if you’re going to skip school, do something more than play cards in the hallway.
Most importantly, though, don’t worry that absolutely no boys like you, because in about 15 years, you realize just how smokin’ hot you are and boys fall like flies at your feet.
Hm, maybe not that last part, sometimes the fun is in the finding out.
Your perfect day. What would it look like?
Can I be really corny? Aside from the weather fluctuations of late, most of my days have been pretty close to perfect lately. So just make the weather stay a nice 65-70 with moderate humidity, and my daily life is up there. If you want me to be really specific, though, wake up, wander the farmer’s market picking up whatever looks good, grab a baguette freshly baked from La Boulangerie, pack a picnic, walk to Flushing Meadow Park, find a nice spot in the shade, people watch, lay around and just enjoy the gorgeous weather… oh wait, that’s what I did yesterday.
