Welcome videographer Sharon Ruedeman! Another classy Karina lady!

Name:
Sharon Ruedeman
Age: 27
Location: Park Slope, Brooklyn!
Online homes: website // vimeo // twitter // facebook
Favorite Karina dress: Penelope and Josie (It’s a close tie between the two, Penelope might win because of the pockets!)

How you know Karina?
I first met Karina, or rather her dress line, when I worked at Flirt  in Park Slope. Now I know the woman behind the dresses from working with her on video projects for her website and brand.

What are your every day, must-reads, online or off?

I honestly don’t have a daily newspaper that I read, or a blog that I always go to, although I do enjoy Effed In Park Slope  from time to time to keep me in touch with going-ons in my neighborhood. I read a lot of books and am currently making my way through a large stack piled next to my bed right now, it’s actually kind of overwhelming. And of course, who can live without facebook?

You’re a filmmaker.  What advice would you give to someone looking to break into the industry?
Intern as much as you can while you’re in college! It’s the worst working for no pay, but it’s even worse working for no pay when you have to make rent and live in the real world. It’s also an opportunity to figure out what part of the film/television industry you like and are good at.  Also, learn as much as possible from everyone you work with, I learn something new on almost every project I work on, from editing and shooting skills to running my own business and I’m thankful that I get so many opportunities to keep learning in the field while working in an industry that I love.

What’s the best movie you’ve seen in the last year?

Woody Allen’s Midnight In Paris, I saw it twice, it was so good. I loved his concept of time travel in the film and his cinematography and the way he captured the city of lights was beautiful. (And I don’t even really like Paris!)

If you could give your 16 year old self advice, what would you say?
Have more confidence in yourself, it took me until just about the age of 27 to really start feeling comfortable in my own skin and to have the confidence in myself to go out and accomplish my dreams. Also, start doing yoga! It’s something that has really changed my life for the better and I wish I had started practicing years ago. I would’ve definitely perfected that headstand by now.

Your perfect day.  What would it look like?

My perfect day would be one of those great Autumn days in early October where the leaves are turning and the air is crisp, and all you need is a light jacket or hoodie. It would be filled with good conversations with old friends and the people I love while we sipped delicious pumpkin flavored coffees or lagers. Oh! And there would definitely be an awesome nap in there somewhere and eating yummy food. It’s all about indulgences.

Thanks for sharing, Sharon!
