Frockstar™: Susan Street of ‘Fifty, Not Frumpy’
What are your every day, must-reads, online or off?
I read some of my favorite fashion blogs and visit some of my favorite likes on Facebook. I study the younger set for trends and color combinations that might inspire me as well as the best looks on women in the over 50 age group.
What are the keys to looking stylish at any age?
Fit, fabrics and confidence. If the items you are wearing fit you well (not too tight but not too baggy either) and the fabrics flow across your body you are half way there. Confidence comes from knowing what colors and elements work for you and what combinations reflect your personality.
Could you share your top three DIY style tips?
1. Always include a third element that pulls your outfit together and makes it unique. (Jacket, interesting necklace or a colorful long scarf for a few examples).
2. Wear your best colors near your face everyday.
3. Change your bag to complement your outfit. Don’t carry the same old bag everyday and for every occasion.
If you could give your 16 year old self advice, what would you say?
Start eating raw leafy green vegetables and fresh fruits everyday now to avoid ruining your skin with a life time of yo-yo dieting. Be aware of fashion trends but be flexible enough to know what works for you and against you. You will never find a person who will “make” you happy. This happiness must first be found within your own self.
Your perfect day. What would it look like?
My perfect day starts with working in my flower gardens, working at my real job for a few hours, then going shopping after lunch and finding something fabulous to add to my wardrobe to wear out to dinner with my wonderful gentleman friend.
Thanks so much for sharing, Susan!
