How did you discover Karina Dresses? My blogger friends, of course!
What are your every day, must-reads, online or off? The Bible and the New York Times–heaven and earth, A to Z.
What’s you most recent awesome accomplishment?
I just bought a Bernina embroidery machine and I’m learning to do custom embroidery. Last week I embroidered a monogrammed kitchen towel with a snowflake on it as a gift for a friend who is visiting us in November. Awesome, huh?
Who is your hero?
Just one? I’ve been blessed with so many. The famous: Mary Tyler Moore: Her TV show in the 70s made me realize that I had options. Madeleine Albright: I love her take-no-prisoners style and the way her arched eyebrows say, “Don’t mess with me.” She’s scary in a wonderful way. My Mom: for her selflessness and concern for others. My Dad: for the way he keeps developing his mind and deals with his physical pain.
Who are your style inspirations?
Jody DeFord, an Indianapolis fashion blogger and friend of mine who has a great eye for color and a passion for shoes. I thought my shoe collection was out of control until I met Jody. (Sorry, Jody, but you know it’s true.) I’m also a sucker for anything worn by Audrey Hepburn.
Why is it important to love our bodies?
Because it’s God-given and perfectly made. Other than taking care of it, we really have nothing to do with it. What right do we have to criticize it? Besides, it’s just a shell that contains what’s real and permanent about us. I love what C.S. Lewis says about it: “You don’t have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body.”
If you could give your 16 year old self advice, what would you say?
#1 Relax! #2 Work on the inside–not the outside. #3 Get over yourself. #4 In any situation, if you can only think of Option A or Option B, better keep thinking and searching. There are always more possibilities than you imagine.
Do you have a favorite quote? If so, what is it? See above.
Your perfect day. What would it look like?
A bottomless cup of tea. A pile of magazines, books and newspapers and my iPad. No deadlines. A little sewing. Dinner out and a concert or live theatre.
